Search settings, docs and assets
Open Search in the portal, or press ⌘K on macOS and Ctrl+K on Windows or Linux. Choose All, Settings & features, Docs, or Assets. Use the arrow keys to select a result and Enter to open it.
Settings and features
Search for a feature or task, such as “invite someone” or “webhooks”. Results open the relevant portal page. Individual settings links scroll to and focus the control. Your project permissions determine which settings appear.
Documentation
Search documentation headings and content. Results link to the matching section of a guide or reference page.
Natural-language asset search
Find images by describing what they show, audio by its spoken content, and video by sampled scenes and spoken content. For example, search for “a red car at night” or “someone explaining how to reset a password”. Image search works in every project without setup: retained, approved images are indexed automatically, including existing assets, at no charge. Audio and video search is optional and billed per project. Turn on Audio and video search after reviewing its initial indexing cost. Hourly reconciliation repairs missing entries and retries failed indexing. Results may be incomplete while indexing runs.
Audio and video must be at most 120 seconds and 50 MiB. Video uses one frame every ten seconds plus its speech transcript. Brief scenes between samples can be missed. Audio search covers speech, not music, sound effects or speaker identification. Results open the asset; they do not seek to a timestamp. Silent audio has no semantic result but remains searchable by keyword.
Image previews, sampled video frames, speech transcripts and queries are embedded into a shared vector space, and audio and video speech is transcribed first. The index stores vectors and content revisions, not another media copy. Derived vectors are removed when you remove content, delete an asset or delete its project. Results respect current project/folder access and exclude rejected, safety-held and removed content.
Search through the API
GET / accepts query, mode and limit. Modes are keyword, semantic, and hybrid (the default). The response includes ranked items, their matchedFields (visual and/or transcript for AI results, indicating the indexed evidence), and semanticStatus: disabled, ready, indexing, or unavailable. At most 20 results are returned; this endpoint does not paginate.
import { CalmLensClient } from "@calmlens/sdk";
const client = new CalmLensClient({
apiKey: "your-api-key",
projectId: "your-project-id"
});
const response = await client.assets.search({
"query": "a red car at night",
"mode": "hybrid",
"limit": 10
});
API keys must belong to the project and have asset read access. Results respect folder permissions. Keyword matches and semantic matches use different relevance scores; compare scores only within the same matching method and query.
Availability
Keyword search uses no AI service. semanticStatus: "disabled" means keyword-only mode; no paid query is recorded. indexing means the project's assets are still being indexed. If the semantic service is unavailable, hybrid search returns keyword results with semanticStatus: "unavailable"; semantic-only search returns no semantic results. Portal settings and docs search continue independently.
Usage and billing
Successful AI asset searches cost £0.025 per 1,000 queries. One query across images, audio and video records one asset_search unit. Each semantic or hybrid request that completes a semantic query records one search against the project owner, including queries with no matches. Failed semantic queries, keyword-only requests, settings/docs searches, indexing and repairs do not count as paid searches. Indexing images is free. In projects with audio and video search turned on, media indexing costs £1.20 per 1,000 asset_media_search_indexing units: one per started six seconds of audio or video. It is charged once per retained content revision, even if the library is never searched. Automatic repairs do not charge again; replacing content creates a new indexing charge. Unsupported media and failed transcription or embedding requests do not create an indexing charge.
Usage is recorded durably before the response and reported to billing with retries. View totals in Portal › Usage.
The portal waits for a pause in typing before sending an asset search. Each completed semantic query counts toward usage. Choose the Settings & features or Docs scope to search those areas without an AI asset query.
Turn on audio and video search
Open Audio and video search, review the initial indexing estimate, turn on Search audio and video, and save with Turn on and index media. The estimate covers audio and video only and excludes content revisions already billed, even if their index is missing. It allows the supported two-minute maximum per file because duration is not stored; actual billing uses decoded duration rounded up to six-second blocks per asset. A one-minute file costs £0.012 to index, and a two-minute file costs £0.024. New uploads and content replacements are additional charges. If the library grows before you save, review the refreshed estimate and retry.
Turning it off stops new media indexing and removes audio and video from the project’s search index. Images stay searchable. Turning it back on rebuilds the media index without charging already billed revisions again. You need project settings write permission to change this setting.
